Korea-USA Friendship Monument and Friendship Day (October 1)

Finally, we aim to declare October 1st, the date of the signing of the Korea-U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty, as a commemorative day and to establish a monument symbolizing the friendship between the two nations. Through this, we wish to convey the importance of the Korea-U.S. relationship to future generations, while promoting a generational task where the first, second, and third generations come together to uphold the exemplary values of the alliance and lead as guardians of global alliances.

We aim to understand the historical process of the Korea-U.S. military alliance, which was formed through the Korean War that began on June 25, 1950, and convey the importance of the Korea-U.S.A. alliance and the necessity of global alliances to generations who have not experienced war. Additionally, we seek to promote the bond of friendship as a brotherhood that transcends nationality, focusing on comrades who fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Especially, we aim to honor the Korean War veterans who immigrated to the United States and now live as American citizens, as well as the U.S. military veterans of the Korean War in California and the Vietnam War veterans, under the name of the Korea-U.S. alliance friendship. Our goal is to record their stories in history.

US KOREA ALLIANCE ASSOCIATION

The alliance between USA & Korea is based on the Mutual Defense Treaty between the Republic of Korea and the United States of America, which reflects the First President Syngman Rhee’s strong determination to secure U.S. guarantees against the threat of a renewed invasion from North Korea, both before and after the signing of the Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953, that ended the Korean War. Over time, the Mutual Defense Treaty evolved into the Korea-U.S. alliance, giving birth to the Combined Forces Command, which has since been the cornerstone of security on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.
