US-Korea Alliance Association Honors Korean War Veterans, Calls for Continued Cooperation between United States and Republic of Korea

LOS ANGELES – Sixty-three years ago today, North Korean forces launched an unprovoked and unprecedented on the Republic of Korea, setting off the on-going struggle between democracy and totalitarianism on the Korean Peninsula.

While the guns – for the most part– fell silent sixty years ago, the threat that North Korea poses to the south and the entire planet continues to this day.

“The US-Korea Alliance Association (한미 동맹협의회) would like – on this solemn day – to honor the sacrifices made by all of the veterans of the Korean War, especially the nearly two million American men who served so valiantly in the cause of freedom,” said Alliance President Dr. Chuck Rheem (한미동맹협의회 총재 임청근). “The United Nations and Republic of Korea forces turned back the onslaught and Korean and American forces remain vigilant in their defense of the freedom of the Republic of Korea.”

As part of the Alliance’s efforts to honor the soldiers who fought in the Korean War, it helped sponsor at special service at the Virginia Korean Church Sunday in Falls Church, VA. Edward Bocherdt, a businessman and veteran appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the Korean War Veteran’s Memorial Advisory Board in 1987, spoke eloquently about “scared sacrifices” by all of the veterans and the continued close relationship between the two nations.

More than 180,000 coalition forces perished and nearly 570,000 were wounded in the war.

Since the war, the United States and Korea have remained close strategic allies, jointly protecting the peninsula from the disastrously failed dictatorship of the north. Additionally, this alliance has proven to be the first and foremost bulwark against the unpredictably dangerous madness of the northern regime that continues to threaten the peace and safety of the entire world.

“This partnership must continue to strengthen and grow as the threat from the north continues unabated,” Rheem said. “The US-Korea Alliance stands resolutely in support of this partnership and continues to work to improve and protect that partnership and honor the veterans who served.”

The US-Korea Alliance Association is a vital growing organization dedicated to honoring the sacrifices made by all who fought in the Korean War and to strengthening the ties between the United States and the Republic of Korea.

To that end, we work diligently – both through public events and through key private national opinion leader conferences – to raise awareness of a number of issues both nations, its alliance, and the on-going threat to the entire world raised by the actions of North Korea.

The alliance between USA & Korea is based on the Mutual Defense Treaty between the Republic of Korea and the United States of America, which reflects the First President Syngman Rhee’s strong determination to secure U.S. guarantees against the threat of a renewed invasion from North Korea, both before and after the signing of the Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953, that ended the Korean War. Over time, the Mutual Defense Treaty evolved into the Korea-U.S. alliance, giving birth to the Combined Forces Command, which has since been the cornerstone of security on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.
